Ultra-Violet Light Absorption

When clear coatings are applied over metallic and dark base coats, the intention is to protect the metallic flake from oxidation and the dark pigment from exposure to short wavelength ultraviolet light. When clear coatings are applied to glass, it is to help reduce the transmission of short wavelength ultraviolet through the glass.

The ability of WC-1 to absorb harmful UV waves improves its ability to protect the underlying coating or glass from exposure to shortwave ultraviolet light. This reduces fading or any yellowing that may occur due to pigment exposure to harmful short wavelength ultraviolet light.
